The device has a UV-visible-near infrared spectrometer (19) detecting a spectrum of a medium i.e. fluid (2), to be measured and/or a spectrum of individual components in a wave length range of maximum 1 nanometer. An output signal of the spectrometer is supplied to an evaluation unit (20). The output signal is determined from actually measured absorption spectrum and a predetermined absorption spectrum of the medium and/or the individual components contained in the medium and/or acid content of one of the individual components. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining an acid content of a medium i.e. fluid.
