The system (10) has a satellite-based navigation system (3) provided for route guidance of a vehicle i.e. low-power small car, and an output device (2) providing optical and/or acoustic and/or haptic information to a driver of the vehicle. A functional module (4) is provided for determining driver-specific characteristics. The output device is controllable so that the output device outputs driver-specific information depending on the determined driver-specific characteristics. A switching device is provided for manual input of the driver-specific characteristics. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a driver assistance system.
