The method involves determining an internal efficiency in dependence of model-based determined combustion pressure of an internal-combustion engine. The combustion pressure is determined in dependence of an ignition delay, a maximum value of the combustion pressure and a rise time between the beginning of the combustion and reaching the maximum value. An independent claim is included for a controlling device for an internal combustion engine, for the execution of an internal efficiency determining method.
