The method involves measuring and evaluating functions of drive components of a drive system for operation of an internal combustion engine (1) with a control and evaluation device (12). The functions of drive components are measured and evaluated during a starting course of the internal combustion engine. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a computer program product, which is loaded in a program memory of a control device; (2) a control device for a vehicle, particularly of an electrical machine; and (3) an electrical machine, particularly starter or generator, for motor vehicle.
