Method for processing drinking water, brine or filling water for bathing by removing halide ions such as iodide, bromide or chlorine ion, comprises oxidative halogenation of an organic compound added to water at an anode
The method comprises oxidative halogenating an organic compound added to water at an anode (A1, A2, A3), separating the halogenated organic compound from the water by a separation process, converting XO 3-ions remaining in the water to the corresponding halide ion at a cathode (K1, K2, K3) connected with the anode over a power source (S) and repeating the process steps up to a predetermined concentration limit value for X -or XO 3-ions. A grafite anode, diamond coated anode or platinum anode is used as the anode. The water to be purified is subjected with a catalyst (2). A graphite anode, diamond coated anode or platinum anode is used as the anode. The water to be purified is subjected with a catalyst (2) after the conversion and optionally before the oxidative halogenation or during the separation. A reducing agent is added to the water to be purified after the conversion and halogentaion. The pH of water is adjusted to 9.5-10.5. The separation process is filtration and/or stripping process. An active coal filter or anthracite filter is used for separating the halogenated organic compound. The concentration limit value for XO 3-ion is = 10 mu g/l. The water is circulated for repeating the process and the process is carried out as batch or continuous process. An independent claim is included for a device for processing drinking water, brine or filling water for bathing.
