The device (1) has a cutting unit (3) for partially cutting a cover of a disposable beverage powder capsule, and a holding unit (2) for automatically retained or clamped reception of the capsule. The device moves the capsule, which is provided in the holding unit, to the cutting unit, in order to cut-open the cover. The holding unit has a narrow conical shape in a direction of the cutting unit. The holding unit receives the capsule such that a retaining bracket arranged on the capsule engages with a recess (7).
