The actuator (4) has a wedge mechanism (30) comprising wedges (18), which are movable transversely or diagonally to a screw transmission (11) between a counter bearing (21) and an output element (22). An expansion mechanism (31) has a conical or wedge-shaped wedge-type slide valve (17), which is movable with the screw transmission. The slide valve moves the wedges into a wedge gap (20), where the wedges are arranged opposite to each other. The screw transmission converts a rotary drive movement into a translational movement. An independent claim is also included for an electromechanical friction brake comprising a friction brake lining and an actuator.
