The device (1) has an ultrasonic unit (11) with an ultrasonic transmitter (12) and an ultrasonic receiver (13). A probe (14) is indirectly and acoustically connected with a test piece i.e. fuel injecting valve (2), in an area of a dissolution volume at a thick region (10), where the volume is provided in the piece. Ultrasonic wave produced by the transmitter in the piece is transmitted to the volume over the probe. A part of the ultrasonic wave reflected at the volume is received by the receiver, where the part of the ultrasonic wave is guided from the piece to the receiver over the probe.
