The method involves supplying overvoltage of an energy-consuming load for diminishing the overvoltage, where the overvoltage exceeds a battery voltage with a sudden load waste. The energy-consuming load is switched ON during excess given tension threshold value for diminishing the overvoltage, where the energy-consuming load is formed as a starter (5). A difference between the overvoltage and the voltage threshold value is reduced by the energy-consuming load. An independent claim is also included for a device for protecting devices attached at an electrical system of a motor vehicle from overvoltage, comprising a protective circuit.
