The cleaning device has connected links that are hinged together and turned around at a diversion point. The high pressure water nozzles (31,41) are provided on external and internal sides of a conveyor belt. Transporting devices (33,35,43,45) move the high pressure water nozzles back and forth in a direction deviating from a running direction of the conveyor belt. An outer nozzle beam is provided at the outer side of the conveyor belt. An inner nozzle beam is provided at the inner side of the conveyor belt. A water channel is provided for water supply to the high pressure water nozzles. An independent claim is included for a method for cleaning of a conveyor belt, particularly for the food industry.
