The system for balancing the group voltages of a number of electrical energy storage batteries (303), with battery cells (305), in battery groups (302) has one group with the highest group voltage connected with the coil windings (370) of a coil (370') for its excitation. The excited coil is connected to charge the coils of another group. At least one battery unit is discharged through an electrical consumer (359) and especially an electrical resistance (360) for individual voltage equalizing. The connections are made through switches (373) as a semiconductor switch (367) and especially a transistor (368), thyristor and the like.
