The method involves receiving traffic sign data e.g. type of traffic sign, over an interface e.g. Universal serial bus (USB), and storing the traffic sign data. An actual position of a vehicle is determined and transferred to a database arranged outside the vehicle. The stored traffic sign data are assigned to the actual position. The stored traffic sign data are compared with real traffic sign data to determine change of traffic signs. Traffic sign information are provided based on the assigned traffic sign data dependent on change of the traffic sign data. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a control device for providing traffic sign information (2) a computer program product comprising instructions for performing a method for providing traffic sign information.
