The electric chain hoist (3) has a load jib (6), which is connected laterally with a traveling crane chassis (2) as a loading component. The load jib is fixed to lateral shields (10) of the traveling crane chassis. The load jib is provided at an end of a projection with a pivoting or rigid head piece (13) with a sprocket wheel (7) for switching a load chain (8). An independent claim is included for a method for automatically adjusting the height of an electric chain hoist.
