The skirting has outer surfaces (20-23) facing a building opening and including grooves extending in a peripheral direction. An inner opening with fastening elements is provided for door frames or window frames (3a). Left and right section blocks (4, 5) include a symmetrical profile relative to each other. Reinforcement strips (4c, 5c) and/or sealing elements are attached in the grooves in the outer surfaces. The skirting extends along an entire periphery of the building opening and is sealingly fitted in the opening. The skirting is made of a heat insulation material i.e. foamed polystyrene. An independent claim is also included for a method for fitting a skirting in a building opening.
