The engine (1) has a micro wave device (50) for introducing microwave radiation into a combustion chamber (30). An antenna device (60) e.g. slot antenna, has two free connections and is arranged in the combustion chamber. The antenna device is formed such that the antenna device is provided between the free connections for generating ignition plasmas during initiation of microwave radiation into the combustion chamber. The antenna device is arranged at a base of a piston (3) of the engine. An independent claim is also included for a method for igniting a fuel mixture in a combustion chamber of an internal-combustion engine.
