The device has a housing provided with a floor mat transporter, and a spray nozzle (5) for applying washing liquid i.e. water-soap-mixture, on a contaminated floor mat (3). An insertion slot (1) is provided in an upper half of the housing. A driven roller (2) pulls and guides the floor mat to a vacuum cleaner (4), where the floor mat runs over a channel (6). The cleaner collects dirt from a surface of the floor mat. A vacuum cleaner station (7) is loaded with two rotary brushes (8.1, 8.2). A suction nozzle (14) removes humidity from the floor mat, where the device is operated as a robot.
