Generating embossed and/or retracted structures on workpieces e.g. drinking glass, comprises applying a pressure difference between a side of a wall of the workpiece and opposite side, and locally heating the wall on softening temperature
The method comprises applying a pressure difference between a first side (108a) of a wall (108) of a workpiece (10) and opposite side (108b), locally heating the wall of the workpiece on a softening temperature of the workpiece by a heat source in order to cause a local deformation of the wall, cooling the workpiece, arranging a hollow body (50) at the sides of the workpiece, and sealing the hollow body by a sealant (52). The heating is carried out by laser beam produced from a carbon dioxide-laser. The method further comprises driving off a pre-determined path with the heat source. The method comprises applying a pressure difference between a first side (108a) of a wall (108) of a workpiece (10) and opposite side (108b), locally heating the wall of the workpiece on a softening temperature of the workpiece by a heat source in order to cause a local deformation of the wall, cooling the workpiece, arranging a hollow body (50) at the sides of the workpiece, and sealing the hollow body by a sealant (52). The heating is carried out by laser beam produced from a carbon dioxide-laser. The method further comprises: driving off a pre-determined path with the heat source and/or controlling or regulating the heat source line and/or the path speed of the heat source; detecting the position and/or outline of the workpiece by an optical detection device and calculating the pre-determined path of the heat source on the basis of the detected position and/or outline of the workpiece; continuously measuring the wall thickness and correcting the path speed and/or heat source line on the basis the measured wall thickness; and continuously measuring a degree of deformation of the workpiece and/or correcting the path speed and heat source line on the basis of the measured deformation degree. The cooling process is carried out by applying a gas flow on the workpiece. The workpiece comprises a hollow body. An opening of the hollow body is locked by a silicone-coated aluminum plate. An independent claim is included for a device for generating embossed and/or retracted structures at workpieces.
