The device (1) has a conveying arrangement (3) with a porous conveyor belt (15) that is movable in a circulating manner. A blower end (20) of an air line (7) is connected with a vacuum source (5) e.g. radial blower, and a suction end (22) abuts against the belt. A constant pressure controller (9) in the air line maintains a constant pressure differential between an interior space of the air line and air line environment. The air line contains a main flap (24) downstream of the constant pressure controller for partially or completely sealing the air line with respect to the vacuum source. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a sheet separating device comprising a sheet support (2) a method for separating sheets in a sheet separating device.
