The method involves measuring suction pressure available at an inlet of a compressor (K) depending on a measured variable measured by a pressure sensor. A desired value for measured variable is determined from the determined measure for suction pressure. The desired value for the measured variable is compared with a measured variable that is measured by a temperature sensor. Refrigerant filling of a refrigerant circuit (KK) is detected depending on the result of comparison of the desired value of the measured variable with the measured variable. An independent claim is also included for an air conditioning system controller for monitoring refrigerant filling quantity in a refrigerant circuit.
