The arrangement has a position determination unit (1a) comprising an optical sensor (1) and an interpolator module (2) that is attached to the optical sensor. An analog/digital conversion unit (3) produces a digitized sensor signal (Sd) and a programmable signal processing unit (4) computes an interpolated position value (P). The interpolator module has a signal adapter unit (5) that is arranged between the optical sensor and the analog/digital conversion unit. The processing unit is designed as a programmable hardware such as integrated circuit in the form of a field programmable gate array. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an arrangement for processing an analog sensor output signal of an optical sensor.
