The retainer (4) has a ring (6), whose height between a bearing shield level and an outside edge of the ring is less than the height of the retainer between a retainer base (7) and the outside edge of the ring. A bearing shield (3) consists of plastic material. The ring has recesses, which unblock a portion of an outer contour of a bearing e.g. roller bearing, which is held in the retainer in a form-fit manner without using an auxiliary part. The recesses are distributed at a circumference of the ring in a uniform manner. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing the bearing retainer.
