The method involves providing an electromagnetic measurement signal e.g. monochromatic laser light signal, and/or an acoustic measurement signal that is directed to a compressor wheel (3) of a compressor i.e. turbocharger (1), so that the acoustic measurement signal is reflected to rotary blades (9) of the wheel. The reflected signal is detected, and evaluation information is determined based on the reflected signal. The compressor is diagnosed based on the evaluation information. A sequence of signal impulses is output as the reflected signal. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for diagnosing a compressor (2) a computer program comprising a program code that is executed by a data processing unit for performing a method for diagnosing a compressor.
