The method involves automatically enlarging jump width around a factor according to number of inputted jump commands, where the number of inputted jump commands is an integral value, which is larger than 1. The jump width is reset to a preset jump width when additional jump commands are not inputted after the inputting of the former jump commands up to end of a preset time interval. The jump width is reduced during direction change, where the preset jump width corresponds to a temporal length of playback of two minutes. An independent claim is also included for a recording and/or playback system comprising a microprocessor control unit.
