The covering element (10'') has a cover part (14'') connected with an adjacent body component (16'') of a motor vehicle body in a boundary region by an adhesive connection (18''). The cover part has a fold (32) extending over a partial length of the boundary region. A separately formed retaining element (34) is fastened in the boundary region. A retaining element (36) of the adjacent body component with a partial region is arranged within the fold. The retaining elements are connected with each other by screws (30). An independent claim is also included for a method for inserting a covering element.
