The domestic refrigeration appliance (1) has a housing (2) and a heat insulating internal space which is arranged within the housing. A refrigeration circuit (7) has a compressor for cooling the internal space. A photovoltaic element is arranged in an outer side of the domestic refrigeration appliance. A battery is charged by the photovoltaic element. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a domestic refrigeration appliance.
