The string (1) has retaining elements (3) connected with scaffold coverings (4) as step treads. A lower end (8) and an upper end (10) of the string include clamp connectors (9, 11) for connecting the string with vertical posts (17) of a facade scaffold. A carrier element (2) e.g. rectangular pipe, is provided with a horizontal section (2b) and a diagonal section (2a). A distance between the posts is approximately 300 cm and measured in a direction perpendicular to the posts. Each retaining element defines a limit stop for a lower side of the covering.
