The device has a tire building drum including a bellow carrier (7) with inflatable bellows. Segments (1) are arranged at the carrier. A drive shaft rotatably drives the tire building drum. A traversing unit (4) is arranged at the drive shaft for expanding the carrier. The segments of the bellows carrier and the traversing unit are movably connected to each other by a guided ball bearing. The traversing unit is moved on the drive shaft in axial direction. The bearing is in form of a ball rotating guide (2) arranged at the traversing unit.
