Method and electronic device for finding the opening point in an electro-pneumatic valve (13) which is used in a closed loop for position control of the switching element (7) of a pneumatic actuator (6) for a valve (2) to be actuated therefrom, wherein the following steps are performed: a) the electro-pneumatic valve (13) is energized with a drive signal corresponding to an estimated opening point; b) the control loop characteristics in this control signal are measured by sensor technology detection of the movement of the switching element (7); c) if the determined control loop characteristics at the current opening point do not correspond to the target specifications, then the control signal is changed in accordance with the evaluation result to produce a better adjusted opening point and the determination process then begins again with step a).
