The method involves processing a material web e.g. paper (101) of printing units (111-114), and providing compensators (122-124) for setting a registry location of the printing units in a material web section in front of one of the printing units. The registry location of two of printing units is adjusted for decoupling the setting of the register location of the two of the printing units. Control commands for the compensators of the other two printing units are produced by non-constant transfer functions by a computing unit. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program comprising a program code for executing a method for correcting register in a processing machine (2) a computer program product comprising a program code for executing a method for correcting register in a processing machine.
