The fuel cell (10) has an anode (12) and a cathode (14) subjectable with fuel and oxidation agent, respectively, where the fuel cell is subjectable with forced vibration by an ultrasonic excitator (22). The ultrasonic excitator is operable in frequency range of 1 megahertz to 3 megahertz. The ultrasonic excitator is temporarily activated in shut-down operation of the fuel cell. The fuel cell is formed of hydrophilic material. The fuel cell is subjected with heat by a heating device, which is provided with a heat accumulator or designed as the heat accumulator. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a fuel cell for a fuel cell system of a vehicle.
