The plate (10) has a flat base layer formed of paper, and an outer glue layer for holding winged insects i.e. fly. A UV-specific layer reflects irradiated UV light from a range of 355-375 nm, and/or partially converts the irradiated UV light into light of longer wavelengths by fluorescence and radiates the light in UV wavelength range and/or in a spectrum visible to a human eye. The UV-specific layer extends over an entire surface of the plate. A UV-lamp is used for irradiating the plate. The plate is arranged in or on a housing of an insect trap.
