The method involves providing dynamic signals that act on a switch-off device using a security chain message and watchdog message and are provided to avoid emergency switch-off of an electric door drive (8). An end stage circuit of a frequency converter is interrupted by the switch-off device using the dynamic signals based on the messages. The interruption of the circuit is signalized to a microprocessor unit using a trigger signal by the switch-off device. Functional efficiency of the switch-off device is tested by controlling a test signal by the microprocessor unit. An independent claim is also included for a door controller comprising a frequency converter.
