The arrangement has an optical fiber (1) e.g. plastic cladded fiber, with a longitudinal area (L1), and extended over a length of a core (1a). Another longitudinal area (L2) is attached to the area (L1), and a cross-section of the area (L2) is enlarged from the area (L1) in a tapered form. The fiber forming the core and a cladding (3) has a multimodal waveguide structure. A pump fiber (5) supplies light to pumps of the core, and is coupled into the structure. The pump fiber is extended from the area (L2) to the area (L1), and connects the optical fiber to an optical unit. An independent claim is also included for a preform for manufacturing a laser arrangement.
