The method comprises forming a slit by a guide structure with external surface of a fold (3) of vehicle part, conducting hot gas in a gas supply up to the slit and then distributing for uniform and intensive heating of adhesive (8) by the guide structure in the slit. The hot gas is blown at the external surface of the fold and the adhesive is heated and solidified. The fold has a folding flange (4), a folding strip opposite to the folding flange, and a bend (6) connecting the fold flange with the folding strip. The method comprises forming a slit by a guide structure with external surface of a fold (3) of vehicle part, conducting hot gas in a gas supply up to the slit and then distributing for uniform and intensive heating of adhesive (8) by the guide structure in the slit. The hot gas is blown at the external surface of the fold and the adhesive is heated and solidified. The fold has a folding flange (4), a folding strip opposite to the folding flange, and a bend (6) connecting the fold flange with the folding strip. The guide structure extends itself in cross-section over the predominant part of the folding flange and one-third of the bend so that the hot gas distributes itself in the corresponding long slit. The temperature of the hot gas is regulated to the adjustment of the solidification temperature at which the adhesive is solidified. The hot gas is led for quick heating of the adhesive with a gas temperature on the surface of the fold that is larger than a solidification temperature at which the solidification of the adhesive takes place, where the gas temperature is reduced after the quick heating of the adhesive is reached to the solidification temperature so that the adhesive heats up to the solidification temperature. The adhesive is held at a pre-determined period in the solidification temperature. The hot gas is heated by a heating unit and the heated hot gas is conducted on the surface of the fold. The gas temperature is measured and the measured value is compared with a desired value. The heat output of the heating unit is regulated dependent upon the result of the comparison. The first substructure forming the fold is braced to a folding bed for joining the vehicle part of first substructure and the second substructure (2) during a folding tool surrounds the folding flange of the first structure on an edge flange of the second substructure and forms the fold. The substructure joined by the fold is lifted in a longitudinal section of the fold from the folding bed and the hot gas is blown in removed condition at the external surface of the fold. An independent claim is included for a device for thermal hardening of an adhesive present in a fold of a vehicle part.
