The method involves selecting an image detection element, and temporarily moving an image detection sensor (17) to an environment. Data with information about characteristics of movement are determined. Images are sequentially recorded by imaging detection areas by the image detection sensor. The images are determined depending on the data. A characteristic value i.e. grey value, of a pixel in the images associated to the image detection element is determined. Distance between the images is determined depending on the data. An independent claim is also included for a device for detection of a defective image pixel detection element of an image detection area in an image detection sensor.
