The machine (1) has a conveyer system for transmitting pasty food to a filling pipe (3) that is in a final section for delivery of food. A turning mechanism (7) is attached to the final section for portioning the food into food portions (11). A transport device (9) discharges the food portions. A detector (13) detects one-time interval (tist) between the food portions, and transmits the one-time interval to an evaluation unit (20) that is arranged for comparison of the time interval with a preset value (tsoll). An independent claim is also included for a method for filling pasty food.
