The method involves storing address files (12) on a machine-readable data carrier (10) e.g. DVD, and storing encrypted destination identification (18) in the address files on the machine-readable data carrier for clear addresses (26). A destination file is maintained on another machine-readable data carrier (22) separated from the former data carrier. Addresses are assigned to the encrypted destination identification. Another encrypted destination identification is assigned to the addresses in the destination file for users. The destination file is stored on a transportable storage medium. An independent claim is also included for a software program product for executing a method for protecting misusage of address files.
