Hybrid material comprises (a) a solid carrier material having high accessible surface, (b) an ionic liquid exhibiting a thermal stability of at least 50[deg] C, where its anion does not have strong coordinating properties, and moistens the carrier material so that the ionic liquid adheres to the carrier material, and (c) a transition metal complex that has one or more ligands, or a stoichiometric or overstoichiometric mixture of ligand and a transition metal complex precursor. Hybrid material comprises (a) a solid carrier material having high accessible surface, (b) an ionic liquid exhibiting a thermal stability of at least 50[deg] C, where its anion does not have strong coordinating properties, and moistens the carrier material so that the ionic liquid adheres to the carrier material, and (c) a transition metal complex that has one or more ligands, or a stoichiometric or overstoichiometric mixture of ligand and a transition metal complex precursor, where the ligand: has at least one chiral center; dissolves in the ionic liquid at a weight portion of at least 20 ppm; and when dissolved forms a chiral catalyst complex in the ionic liquid and exhibits a thermal stability of at least 50[deg] C. An independent claim is included for a method for asymmetrical hydrogenation in continuous gas phase contact comprising the use of the above hybrid material as a catalyst component, where the hydrogenation method is carried out at 1-500 bar (preferably 1-20 bar).
