The system has a floating body (1) arranged on a wave-like surface of water. A main rope comprises end sections partially wound on windings (16a, 16b) when the floating body is provided in a wave trough. The end sections are partially unwound from the assigned windings, when the floating body is provided on or below wave crest. Energy is produced in a rotational direction by three phase alternating current machines (18a, 18b) during upward motion of the body. The windings are driven in a direction opposite to the rotational direction during downward motion of the body.
