In a method for securing a starter strand (4) in the strand guide (2) of a continuous casting plant, in which the strand is transported on drivable guiding rollers (7d) and held in a starting position of adjustable guiding rollers (7c), guiding rollers (7c) of a guiding segment (3, 3a - 3d) (downstream of the starter strand in the transport direction (R)) are conically adjusted and block the transport path of the strand. A method for securing a starter strand (4) in the strand guide (2) of a continuous casting plant, during threading in and before the start of casting, involves transporting the strand from drivable guiding rollers (7d) and holding the strand in a starting position of adjustable guiding rollers (7c), sealing the outlet side of a continuous casting chill mold (1). The novel feature is that guiding rollers (7c) of a guiding segment (3, 3a - 3d), downstream of the starter strand in the transport direction (R), are conically adjusted and block the transport path of the strand. An independent claim is included for an injection molding plant with a chill mold (1) and (downstream in the strand transport direction (R)) a strand guide (2) formed by guiding segments (3, 3a - 3d) supporting guiding rollers (7a, 7b), defining a transport path for a starter strand (4), which seals the outlet side of a continuous casting chill mold (1) at the start of casting and is retained and moved in the guide by adjustable and drivable guiding rollers (7c, 7d).
