The method involves covering a planar workpiece (10) with plastic material e.g. polyurethane material, and partially hardening the plastic material. The workpiece coated with the plastic material is shaped such that a region to be shaped is heated using an infrared heating coil before or during a shaping step. A protective film is attached on the coated workpiece before the shaping step. The plastic material is selected such that the plastic material is in transparent form after the hardening process.
