The apparatus has an optical imaging system that is configured for displaying a three-dimensional object (1) in an image plane (4). The optical imaging system has an aperture arrangement (6) with three apertures (7-9) that are spaced apart from each other. Each aperture is attached to different spectral filters such that spatial information and color differentiated frames of the three dimensional object are produced within blur radius of the imaging system. The spatial information is related to the image plane by retention of the object. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an image display device comprising an optical image generating apparatus (2) a method for generating an optical image of a three-dimensional object.
