The device has an exhaust gas turbocharger (100) with a turbine, where the turbine is arranged in a turbine housing (104). Exhaust gas flows through the turbine housing during an operation of an internal combustion engine. A catalytic converter e.g. nitrogen oxide storage catalytic converter, and a gas sensor (112) i.e. lambda probe, are provided, where the gas sensor is directly arranged in the turbine housing approximately perpendicular to an exhaust gas-flow direction (a). The gas sensor determines a fuel-air ratio in the exhaust gas based on residual oxygen content in the exhaust gas.
