The method involves assigning an event classification number to an occurred event, and storing more information to the occurred event with the event classification number in a data storage. The old stored event in the data storage is replaced by newly occurred event, in case of a storage space shortage in the data storage, when a priority of the new event is classified higher than a priority of the old stored event. The priority of the new event is deductible with the help of the event classification number. An independent claim is also included for a data processing system for implementing a method for recording diagnostically-relevant data of a mechatronic system in a motor vehicle.
