The system (1) has a regulating device (30) for regulating drive operation of a drive device (10) for driving an element to be driven in a drive motion. A control device (50) e.g. numeric control device, controls operating modes i.e. simulation modes, of the drive device. The drive motion of the element does not take place through the simulation modes. Reaction of the drive device is simulated to a predetermined desired value. The predetermined desired value is inputted to the regulating device by the control device. The regulating device comprises a position controller (33). An independent claim is also included for a method for simulating operation of a drive device.
