The method involves transforming data packet (iMP) of a network layer into another data packet (LSP) of data link layers. Verification is made whether fields of a header (iMH) and fields of another header (LSH) are available, where the former fields are consistent relative to a field type and corresponding field content. Content of the former fields is transformed into corresponding latter fields when the consistent latter fields are determined. The former fields are only transformed into a data field (LSD) of the latter data packet when the consistent latter fields are not determined. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product comprising instructions for performing a method for processing data in a communication network (2) a device for processing data.
