The button has a mechanical stop (10) formed at a housing. An electrical switch element (2) comprises flat electrical contacts. An actuator (6) mechanically acts on the switch element during depression and closes the electrical contacts, where a flat safety shutdown mat is designed as the electrical switch element. The contacts are spaced parallel to each other in an edge region under intermediate arrangement of electrical insulation. The mat with the contacts is enclosed by a pad-like sheath comprising an elastomer receiving excessive force.
