The method involves determining a route via a driver assistance system, where the route is defined by a navigation device. Information data is collected by a driver assistance system. Verification is made to find whether event exists in the route. A driving strategy reference is provided by the system under consideration of the event and displayed on display surface of the system. Information about the event is output to the driver by the reference. The reference includes driving speed reference, operation mode reference and/or driving route change depending on the event. An independent claim is also included for a driver assistance system for implementing a method for providing a driving strategy reference and outputting the reference to a driver of a motor vehicle.
