The system (1) has a workpiece feeding unit (4) for providing workpieces (2) i.e. engine blocks, to be mounted and/or machined, and a workpiece delivery unit (6) for removal of mounted and/or machined workpieces. The workpieces are mounted and/or machined by a group of machining centers (3). A robot unit (8) is provided common for the group. The robot unit is controllably movable by a flow program on a freely defined path between the machining centers, the workpiece feeding unit and the workpiece delivery unit.
