The method involves determining a control parameter by an evaluation device (1) for producing an additional braking force in dependence of a threshold value of an applied manual braking force. The threshold value is changed in dependence of a parameter of movement of a motor vehicle, where the value is designed as vehicle speed (3). The threshold value is changed additionally in dependence of a momentary delay (2) of the vehicle and in dependence of collision danger of the vehicle with an obstacle e.g. animal. An independent claim is also included for a device for providing braking force support in a motor vehicle.
